The lead “Farmer” at Green Thumb Farmer is a sixth generation farmer from Pennsylvania. We are a Family based business deeply rooted in our community. Don Kaltenbaugh is committed to bringing sustainable, effective products, made in America, to the marketplace. Green Thumb Farmer products are created for the eco-conscious gardener or farmer who is looking for a superior product created from renewable resources.
Our flagship product line is Pennsylvania, Tru-Char Biochar. Through a careful, hands on process, biomass is harvested and transformed into a soil amendment capable of “holding” onto nutrients and moisture in your soil, providing a consistent release to the plant. No short cuts are taken in the production and packaging of our products.
Green Thumb Farmer Biochar is NEVER cooled with water, thereby eliminating the concern for contaminants harmful to plants. Biochar is also helpful in balancing soil pH and assisting with soil amendment, transforming your clay can turn into fluffy black garden soil over time.
We are fortunate to be located in Pennsylvania, one of the top states in the U. S. for Biochar feedstock. The timber abundant in the Appalachian Hills creates exceptional Biochar. Our happy trees have absorbed wonderful, rich nutrients and have grown strong and dense, creating the perfect framework and foundation for you to “charge” or add your own nutrients and water.
